Zach will attend the University of South Carolina, Columbia and major in Neuroscience on the pre-med track. He plans on becoming an anesthesiologist and is looking forward to research opportunities. Zach is a lover of music and going to concerts. He is especially a fan of 80’s rock and metal music. He plays guitar and collects vinyl records. He also loves to travel and is looking forward to the study abroad opportunities at UofSC.

to present our 2025 CBSMF Scholar,

Zachary Malek!


Zach Malek recently graduated summa cum laude from Marvin Ridge High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina. While in high school, through AP classes and dual enrollment, he received credit for nine college classes and obtained his National Registry EMT certification. Zach was president of the Science National Honor Society, was a member of National Honor Society, HOSA, and Student Council. He is active in his church youth group and has attended mission trips to Costa Rica and Western North Carolina to help with hurricane relief. 

Swimming has been an important part of Zach’s life since he was six years old and he first started competitive swimming. He has swam year-round club as well as competing on his high school team. He hopes to continue swimming in college at the club level. Zach began coaching when he was 13 years old. He has coached the 250+ athlete neighborhood summer swim team for five seasons, was the assistant coach for the middle school swim team for two seasons, and has given private lessons for years. He also works with and especially enjoys coaching athletes participating in the Special Olympics. He has a great passion for coaching swimmers of all levels from absolute beginners to elite athletes.
